California (CA) was granted statehood Sept. 09, 1850. The State Capital is Sacramento. California has 58 counties, and 55 electoral votes. The State Nickname is The Golden State. The motto is "Eureka" (I have found it).

  • Anaheim, CA: Disney California Adventure Park – Disneyland (California) opened in 1955, now covering 85 acres, and continues to add rides and features. A magnificent castle entrance greets visitors. The park includes so many rides that one can be kept busy for days. Included is the Matterhorn with rides, and an almost unlimited number of incredible rides and adventures with all of the special Disney characters. Disneyland is billed as "the happiest place on earth."
  • Big Sur, CA: Pfeiffer Beach Pfeiffer Beach’s Purple Sand can be enjoyed for a $5 entrance fee. It is located in the heart of Big Sur, California with a beautiful purple colored sand beach. It is "heaven on earth" to the local people. The beach is day only and the gates are open 7 days a week from 9am to sunset. Be sure to enjoy this wonderful place.
  • Chico, CA: Honey Run Covered Bridge – Completed in January of 1887 this three span covered bridge is the only known three span covered bridge in the United States. Located at 1670 Honey Run Rd., Chico, CA. Park hours are 9 AM to 5 PM (Fall - Winter) and 9 AM - 6 PM (Spring - Summer).
  • Death Valley, CA: Death Valley National Park – Death Valley, at its lowest point, is 282 fee below sea level and holds he record for the highest reliably recorded air temperature in the world: 134 degrees Farenheit. Death Valley has a long and varied history. To some of the older folks a TV series titled, "Death Valley Days" highlighted the harsh conditions here. In the 1800s Borax was mined and transported by means of 20-mule teams. Many towns and mining camps have come and gone. Today it is a national park and is visited by people from around the globe.
  • Death Valley, CA: Scotty’s Castle (and here)– There is a green oasis in Grapevine Canyon in far northern Death Valley. Secluded in this oasis is the Death Valley Ranch or more commonly known as Scotty's Castle. It provides a look into the past of the "Roaring 20s" and "Depression 30s." The rich history behind this name and how the castle came to be in such a desolate place can only be appreciated by taking a tour.   • Ontaria, CA: Scandia Amusement Park Wow! Great rides, a castle and great fun for old and young. Attractions include not only the rides and castle, but a large video arcade, miniture golf, batting cages, and 2 restaurants. Group facilities are available, and much more. A wondeful way to spend the day.
  • Petaluma, CA: Garden Valley Ranch – The ranch was started in 1880 as a cattle ranch. The site now boasts over 10,000 rose bushes. Harrison Mecham was the founder of the cattle ranch which later became the home of one of Mecham's daughters, Isabel. An ornate three story victorian mansion was built in 1888, but was destroyed by fire in the early 1980s. Many of the other buildings were saved or rebuilt. A group of investors purchased the property in the 1980s and began planting the roses. They are natural and chemical free and include over 60 varieties. The site now includes a retail nursery and wedding event site. This is a must see.
  • Riverside, CA: Castle Park Built in 1976, the park continues to expand. Among the many rides, enjoy an arcade that offers nearly 200 state of the art video games. But wait! There's more: The park offers discounts to groups, birthday party accomodations, five levels of family water play fun, miniature golf, to name just a few.
  • Santa Clara, CA: California’s Great America Theme Park – North of southern California there are still more "Theme Parks." The "Theme Park" includes not only great rides, but also provides special events, including spectacular fireworks, "Family Flicks," "Bring-A-Friend Fridays," etc. The park provides for the whole family with "Thrill Rides, Family Rides, and much more. Enjoy a special family outing here.
  • San Diego, CA: SeaWorld San Diego – Marineland of the Pacific was purchased in 1987 and the contents moved to SeaWorld in San Diego. SeaWorld has been around for more than 50 years. The park includes many rides, shows, exhibits, and "Premier Experiences." Events are featured at various times throughout the year. This is definitely a "must see."
